Building the World’s Fastest, Electric Formula E Racing Car

Multiple features allow this advanced Electric Car to outpace any current petroleum-based, piston-driven engine technologies, thus paving the way for California to transition from a faltering Computer Industry to a burgeoning Electric Car Manufacturing Industry; using exactly the same Motor Industries, Semiconductor Industries, and Supply Infrastructures currently established. 

Our Formula E Racing Car will spark the public interest for building the new Electric Car Infrastructure in California; just in time for the Emission-Less Mandate set for 2009, The technology developed here will form the core basis for the C.E.C.M., The Consortium of Electric Car Manufacturers. While based in California, the C.E.C.M. will network with Manufacturers, Service Stations, Technical Colleges, Vendors, and Component Suppliers throughout the US to build an entire E-Car Industry in the next two to three years.


The Future Spark will be a record-breaking Formula E-Car. Its top Racing Speeds will hover around 300+ m.p.h. on a track with 60o banked corners; pulling G Forces equivalent to those experienced by the pilot of an F-16 fighter jet, and moving through pit stops in just under 4 seconds. This will truly be a new racing sport, ushering in the Superiority of Electric Cars over anything that is fossil fueled.

This Formula E-Car has a combination of innovative and advanced aerospace technologies that will be necessary for racing at these extreme speeds as conditions approach a jet fighter skimming off the ground. This is truly a multidisciplinary challenge. The significant difference in this case is that the flight deck for our Electric Racing Car will be 4 inches off the ground.

There are multiple advantages that standard Electronic Torque Controls have over any single piston engine drive train with a mechanical differential system. These subtle differences are significantly more important at racing speeds over 200 m.p.h. And more importantly, these technologies can be scaled down to fit Consumer Priced Electric Cars, increasing the driving performance and safety over existing Hybrids and Electric Cars.

Why Electric Cars Will Always Win on Race Day!

There are many differences between Piston Engines and Electric Motors. These differences are so fundamental to their overall performance that Piston Engines will never be able to keep up. Although massive amounts of horsepower can be derived from piston engines, the ability to control this power happens over a very narrow speed range, thus creating the need for large transmission and clutch system; which usually doubles the weight and reduces power transfer considerably. 

DC Electric Motors have Full Torque at Zero Speed; -Full Power at Zero RPM's.

This fundamental aspect of Electric Motors will always overshadow Piston Engines. This feature will provide the Future Spark Electric Racing Car with a faster jump off the starting line without clutching errors. This will also provide a stronger, smoother acceleration to top speed without gear shifting delays. An Electric Motor does not need a transmission or clutch; period. This is the first reason Electric Cars will win on Race Day. If you doubt this, keep in mind that every train you have seen for the last 50 years, whether freight or subway, has always been driven by Electric Motors, --precisely for this reason.

Electric Motors are over 90% efficient in Power Transfer from the Battery Source.

In contrast, Internal Combustion Engines are limited by the Laws of Thermo-Dynamics to about 30% fuel efficiency. This means that roughly two-thirds of every gallon of gas burnt is lost as Waste Heat with rise in temperatures as high as 1500 degrees, -enough to melt silver. This is the real underlying factor in Global Warming. Not only are we producing a blanket of CO2 in our upper atmosphere, but we are also warming it up with roughly 20 trillion barrels of pure heat burnt so far! Yes, now that is enough to change our climate here on Earth.

Electric Motors have about 10% or less of waste heat with temperatures only around 125 degrees C, just enough to boil water. And with the use of Solar Power to charge Batteries, Electric Cars not only reduce CO2 Emissions to zero; they actually reduce direct heating in the atmosphere by seven times over Piston Engines.

Electric Motors have Only One Moving Part.

Piston Engines have hundreds of moving parts; from the valves, cam shafts, cranks, and connecting rods to the support systems of water pumps, alternators, timing belts, distributors, and fuel injectors, not to mention the transmission, clutch and differential. All these parts need lubrication to survive. The Electric Motor has only one moving part, dramatically increasing reliability, providing a much longer service life, and never requiring a single oil change, -again, furthering the clean-up of our Planet over time.



New Battery System Improves Safety, Reliability, and Cycle Times

Conventional Lead Acid Batteries cannot carry their own weight, quite literally. There is not enough energy stored in a Lead Acid battery to raise its Kinetic Energy, (speed), much past 100 mph; even if the rest of the car was made out if thin air. Ni-Cad’s and Nickel Metal Hydride Rechargeable Batteries are about five times lighter and are acceptable for routine city travel, although they suffer a shorter life span and cycle degradation if not fully discharged every time.
Typical Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer Technologies are about twenty times lighter for about the same energy storage, but they have very strict charging limitations. If Charging Temperatures exceed about 120 degrees, they kick off their own exothermic chemical reaction, which quickly exceeds 3000 degrees, melting everything in its path. Clearly, this is an unsafe solution for large vehicle batteries.

A new Lithium Battery Technology developed by Altairnano.com has dramatically improved the safety and performance over convention Lithium Battery types. A unique Nano-Structure replaces Carbon with Titanium and produces a fireproof, “NanoSafe” Battery with 1/5 the charging times, and 1000 times the cycle life. Why is this so Important Anyway ?!

When Henry Ford was starting the first production line for automobiles, (truly a history changing event), he fought ‘tooth-n-nail’ to use natural Ethanol as the standard fuel base for cars because he knew that oil-based, fossil fuels had a limited capacity, created lots of pollution, and that a Nature-Based Ethanol fuel source would be renewable for the life-span of Humanity.

His financiers denied his funding until he capitulated to the use of Kerosene, because his financiers at the time were ‘loosing their shorts’ on Lamp Lighting Oil, mostly because Edison’s “Electric Safety Light Bulbs” were replacing all the Dirty Oil Lamps on all the major city streets at the time.

Here we are, a mere hundred years later, facing Peak Oil with extreme levels of air pollution and a Global Warming Epidemic that threatens planetary extinction, and we are still debating the issues of returning to the use of Electric Cars and Bio-Fuels. Seriously, How Silly can We be?!
